“Murderers are not monsters; they’re men. And that’s the most frightening thing about them”– Alice Sebold.
The quote certainly underscores the dark and virulent shades of a man’s palette. Seeing someone die in front of eyes would be a person’s worst nightmare but what if taking life becomes the source of pleasure or an obsession for someone. Have you ever wondered that what would be in the minds of those savage psychopath serial killers who brutally murdered several innocent people?
Following are some of the most brutal serial killers ever and their spine chilling confessions.
Albert Fish (May 19, 1870 – January 16, 1936):
Fish was an American serial killer, who had been convicted of murdering three people and confessed to rape as well as cannibalize up to 100 people. From his early age, he was introduced to the practice of drinking urine and eating feces. He used to insert needles in his scrotum and fill his buttocks with nail studded paddle for ‘pleasure.’ His method of killing included stabbing with a knife, meat cleaver and a small handsaw. Cannibalism became an obsession for him. He would rape young boys, mutilate their bodies and eat them, sometimes raw and sometimes cook it himself. In a letter to his attorney, he had confessed:
“I put onions, carrots, turnips, celery, salt, and pepper. It was good. Then I split the cheeks of his behind open, cut off his monkey, and pee wees and washed them first. I put strips of bacon on each cheek of his behind and put them in the oven…… So the meat would be nice and juicy. In about 2 hours, it was nice and brown, cooked through. I never ate any roast turkey that tasted half as good as his sweet fat little behind did.”
Gary Ridgway (born Feb. 18, 1949)
Gary Ridgway, an American serial killer, had been convicted of 49 murders and hence had been noted as the most prolific serial killer of all the time. He started killing young women as his ‘career.’ Most of his victims were prostitutes and vulnerable women. He would pick up a woman, have sexual intercourse with her and then strangle her from behind to death. He would dump all the dead bodies at a place in woods to form a cluster and often come back to have sexual intercourse with the corpses. On asking upon the murders he committed, the devil declaimed:
“I don’t believe in man, God nor Devil. I hate the whole damned human race, including myself… I preyed upon the weak, the harmless and the unsuspecting. This lesson I was taught by others: Might makes right.”
Carl Panzram (28 June 1891 – 5 September 1930)
The American homosexual murderer had confessed to killing 21 people and performed 1000 rapes and sodomizes. He would often rob men and rape them to humiliate them viciously. In a confession to the murder of an 11-year-old boy whom he raped he quoted:
“His brains were coming out of his ears when I left him, and he will never be any deader.”
On asking up on reform, he had confessed:
“I have no desire whatsoever to reform myself. My only desire is to reform people who try to reform me, and I believe the only way to reform people is to kill them. My motto is: Rob ’em all, rape ’em all, and kill ’em all.”
Richard Ramirez (born February 29, 1960 )
From mid-1984 to 1985 the people of southern California were terrorized as a series of brutal murders, burglary and rapes took place at nights. The serial killer dubbed as ‘night stalker’ would invade homes, rape and kill the people who slept inside. A variety of weapons like knives, handguns, hammers was used by Ramirez to stab and beat up the victim to death.
In one of his murder cases, he raped a nine-year-old girl, stabbed her to death, and her body was found in the basement of a hotel, hanging from a pipe.
After his capture he had confessed:
“ I love to kill people. I love watching them die. I would shoot them in the head, and they would wiggle and squirm all over the place, and then just stop. Or I would cut them with a knife and watch their faces turn real white. I love all that blood. I told one lady to give me all her money. She said no. So I cut her and pulled her eyes out.”
Andrei Chikatilo (16 October 1936 – 14 February 1994)
One of the most insane serial killers ever, Andrei Chikatilo was a rapist and a cannibal who killed 52 people, mostly women. He was a sadistic criminal psychopath who got ‘aroused’ only after seeing his victims suffer. After killing, he would mutilate the dead body, scoop out the eyeballs and eat the intimate parts of the victim. Once he murdered a 17-year-old girl and mutilated the body with a stick and tore one nipple from the body with his teeth. He said it gave him ‘animal pleasure’ to chew or swallow nipples or testicles.
In an interview, he said:
“…the whole thing – the cries, the blood, the agony – gave me relaxation and a certain pleasure.”
From August 1995 to October 1999, a dreadful gang of serial killers terrified the villages of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Krishna, the leader of the infamous Dandupalya gang, was convicted of 42 murder cases. He would attack his victims with a crowbar, rob them and have sexual intercourse with dead bodies.
When being caught, without any guilt Krishna said:
“I liked to hear the last sounds of life draining away. It excited me to hear the gurgling sound that emerges from the throat after I slit it.”
Ted Bundy (November 24, 1946 – January 24, 1989)
In 1974, young female college students started disappearing at a rate of about one per month in Washington, USA. A serial killer and psychopath with, his charming looks would impersonate someone, approach his victims at public places then brutally murder them at concealed locations. He has confessed to murdering 30-36 victims. After killing women, he would perform necrophilia and do insane activities like sitting by the corpse for hours, shampooing the hair and applying makeup on it. He wasn’t guilty of his deeds said that he was guided by a divine spirit:
“You feel the last bit of breath leaving their body. You’re looking into their eyes. A person in that situation is God!”
In one of his interviews, the most notorious serial killer ever had to say:
“We serial killers are your sons; we are your husbands, we are everywhere. And there will be more of your children dead tomorrow.”
Ed Gein (August 27, 1906 – July 26, 1984)
E.g., Gein is convicted of two murders, but his terrible activities made him one of the most horrible psychopaths ever. He dug up the female corpses from the nearby graveyard and wore their body parts. On investigation at his home, police found body parts everywhere. Police also discovered human noses, vulvae, skulls made into bowls, skin masks, human heads in sacks, lamps and chairs upholstered in human flesh, organs in the refrigerator, and a belt made of human nipples.
Speaking about prison, he said:
“I like this place, everybody treats me nice, some of them are a little crazy though.”
John Wayne Gacy (March 17, 1942 – May 10, 1994)
Also known as the killer clown, the murderer has been convicted of sexually assaulting and murdering 33 teenage boys. He would entice young men to his home, tie them in handcuffs and choke them to death by strangling them. He would bury the dead bodies in the crawl space under the floor at his home. 27 dead bodies were found on his floor. Gacy has no remorse and keeps a count of his fame:
“There’s been 11 hardback books on me, 31 paperbacks, two screenplays, one movie, one off-Broadway play, five songs, and over 5,000 articles. What can I say about it? I have no ego for any of this garbage.”
John Christie (8 April 1899 – 15 July 1953)
Christie was a British serial killer who murdered eight women by strangling them to death. The bodies of three of his victims were discovered in the corner of his kitchen. He murdered one of his victims by promising to cure her bronchitis with a mixture he made up of domestic gas which made her unconscious. He then strangled her to death raped her after death.
“For me, a corpse has a beauty and dignity which a living body could never hold… there is a peace about death that soothes me.”
He even murdered his wife in bed and on conviction, had to say:
“…removed the one obstacle which for ten years had apparently held me in check. After she had gone the way was clear for me to fulfill my destiny.”
Insane and Scary!
They are psychopaths, and they are serial killers. They are humans, but they are inhumane. They get a life to ‘get a life.’ They can be anywhere. So watch your back!
